Shannon is 14 years old. She lives with her brother and parents in Weehawkin, New York. Although, throughout most of the book is staying with her Uncle Neal with her brother Cody, in Seattle, Washington. During this time their parents are on a trip to Pakistan for 9 weeks of the summer. Her parents work for Doctors Without Borders. When she is in Seattle, Shannon does some cool things and learns some lessons. Shannon is the narrator.
Cody is 7 years old. He is Shannon's younger brother. Also, he is obbsessed with disasters. This happened because he saw the 9-11 terorists the twin towers while his soccer coach/his best friend's dad was inside. Cody is a nice kid and has plenty of energy!
Neal is 39 year old man. He is Shannon and Cody's uncle, and their mom's brother. Neal used to live in the city of Seattle and worked as an aeronautical engineer, but something happened and he quit his job at Boeing. Then, he moved out of his apartment and started to work for Jackie's Wild Seattle full time. He is very happy and good at rescuing animals!
Sage is a black and white border collie. She is Neal's dog and partner in saving animals. Sage does not like children after being abused by a child when she was a puppy.
Jackie is the owner of Jackies Wild Seattle. She is older and very experienced with animals. Jackie is worried about Neal's health and that he is over-working himself.
Tyler is a teenage boy. He works at Jackie's Wild Seattle because he got in trouble when he abused a stray dog. He is frowned upon by some of the volunteers, but is friends with Shannon.
Mr. Tucker is Tyler's father. He has a personal gruge against Jackie, so when he finds out that Tyler is begining to enjoying himself there, he gets really angry.
